Culture Is the Foundation: Why a Great Restaurant Culture Matters as Much as the Bottom Line
By Angelo Eliades – Founder, Owner, President & COO
In the restaurant business, numbers matter. Food cost, labor, sales, and profitability all play a critical role in long-term success. But at CHC Restaurants, we believe something else is just as important: culture.
A strong, positive culture isn’t a slogan or a side initiative. It’s the foundation that supports everything we do—from how our teams work together to how our guests experience our restaurants every day.
The Goal: Creating a Place People Look Forward to Working
Our goal is simple but powerful: we want people to look forward to coming to work.
When employees feel respected, supported, and valued, work becomes more than just a shift. It becomes an environment where people take pride in what they do and who they do it with. That mindset is the starting point for everything else.
Culture Drives Consistency and Retention
A positive culture directly impacts retention. At CHC, our focus on teamwork, development, and respect has led to lower turnover—which benefits both our teams and our guests.
Consistent teams create consistent execution. When employees stay, they gain confidence, sharpen their skills, and build stronger relationships with both coworkers and guests. That stability allows us to deliver a higher level of service every single day.
Promoting From Within: Building Real Careers
One of the clearest examples of our commitment to culture is our focus on promoting from within.
Today, we have seven Front of House managers who began as servers, bartenders, and—in several cases—server assistants. They learned the business from the ground up and grew into leadership roles through dedication, accountability, and performance.
The same philosophy exists in the kitchen. We have multiple Back of House leaders who started as line cooks and pantry cooks, advanced into Sous Chef roles, and in some cases earned Executive Chef positions.
These stories reflect our belief that CHC is not a temporary stop. It’s a place to build a career.
A Team-First, Pooled System
Another cornerstone of our culture is our team-first pooled system, designed to ensure everyone works together toward a shared goal.
This approach:
- Encourages collaboration over competition
- Eliminates jealousy and internal animosity
- Creates shared accountability and mutual support
When success is shared, the focus shifts from individual gain to collective excellence. Teams communicate better, help each other more willingly, and stay aligned on delivering the best possible guest experience.
Positive Teams Create Better Guest Experiences
A positive staff creates better guest experiences—it’s that simple.
Guests can feel the difference when teams enjoy working together. Energy is higher, service is smoother, and hospitality feels genuine rather than forced. Culture shows up on the floor, in the dining room, and at the table.
Culture Creates a Family Environment
Ultimately, our culture is about creating a family environment—one built on trust, accountability, respect, and shared success.
At CHC Restaurants, people are supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to grow. Leaders are developed from within. Teams operate as one. And everyone is working toward the same goal.
The Bottom Line Follows the Culture
Strong culture and strong financial performance are not competing priorities; they are deeply connected.
Lower turnover, better execution, stronger leadership pipelines, and exceptional guest experiences all stem from a positive workplace culture. When people believe in where they work, the results follow naturally.
Our Commitment at CHC
At CHC Restaurants, creating a great culture is just as important as the bottom line. We are committed to building environments where people look forward to coming to work, see a future for themselves, and feel part of something bigger.
Because great restaurants aren’t built on numbers alone—they’re built on people.
